Cloze Format Converter

Convert numbered questions and answers into the format used by the Cloze page

Instructions

  1. Each question line should include a blank where the learner answers: use dashes (—————, --, etc.) or underscores (____, …). Those markers are converted to exactly seven underscores: _______. The converter does not add a blank if a line has none—put the blank in the question yourself. The Cloze page needs a blank in each item to work.
  2. Paste your questions in the first panel (top). Parentheses and their contents are kept (e.g. (sing.), (verb)). Optional . lines between items are ignored.
  3. Paste your answers in the second panel (numbered list: 1. word1 2. word2 ... or without dots after numbers, e.g. 1 word1 2 word2).
  4. Optionally enter instructions for the learner in the field below the panels. If set, the converter adds a first line like -Your instructions here- so the Cloze page shows that text above the answer choices instead of the default prompt.
  5. Click "Convert to Cloze Format".
  6. Copy the result and paste it into the Upload/Edit Cloze panel on the Cloze page.

Blanks: Dash or underscore runs in each question are normalized to _______. Lines with no dash or underscore blank are copied as-is (nothing is added at the end of the sentence).

Each question must already contain a blank; dash and underscore blanks become exactly _______. For translation-style items, put the blank in the source line yourself (e.g. I get up early. _______ | Mi alzo presto).
